About
Dilruba Tayfun (also known as Dilly)(b. 1995. Antalya, Turkey) is an artist based in Amsterdam. Tayfun engages with gathered objects from the natural environment as the basis for her process-based painting practice, forming an expansive, layered and collaborative language that dips in and out of the tactile and digital realms. Her work weaves meaning into image-making – bridging material and immaterial worlds, the embodied and the imagined, science and spirit. From this all-encompassing, location-responsive, and durational practice emerges a distinct lexicon that spans the mediums of painting, hybrid drawing, works on paper, digital design, live performance and time-based media.
Tayfun has exhibited her work in Bodrum, Turkey, London, United Kingdom, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands (including The Merchant House, Kersgallery and various locations in Westerpark). She was recently commissioned to create new work for Het Schip Museum and invited to make live drawings at Foam, Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam. Her project Togather was the 2021 winner of Trojan Horse was a Unicorn's Sony Talent League. She has created work for The Independent, Institute of Race Relations, Mutoid Waste Co., and Electric Light Studios, Versal Literary & Arts journal & TomTom.
Tayfun has been the recipient of multiple grants; including Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK), Amsterdam Municipality: Area-Based Arts and Culture Grant - West, Amarte and Stimuleringfonds.
